“Have you ever thought about where memories reside?” Here at Wo Hop Shek Columbarium Phase III, we find a place dedicated to those lasting memories. It’s more than just a final resting place. It’s a space where the past connects with the present. It is a place to reflect on the future.
Wo Hop Shek Columbarium Phase III is part of the larger Wo Hop Shek Cemetery. The Department provides services for cremation and burial of remains. The cemetery includes columbaria and gardens. These offer different options for remembrance.
Phase I of the Wo Hop Shek Cemetery columbarium project offers 44000 niches. It occupies a 22500 square meter area at Kiu Tau Road. The site includes two six-story buildings. There is a pick-up/drop-off area and a leisure space.
The buildings’ design draws from Chinese traditions. It embodies the concept of “Bai San”. This is where the present meets past and future. The columbarium buildings are designed to look like “the Cloud of Soul”. This symbolizes a platform for shared memories. The aim isn’t just to say goodbye. It is to come together in remembrance.
The design incorporates nature. Recycled wood and existing stones are used. Vertical greening has been installed. Eco-friendly joss burners help reduce pollution.
The government has planned road improvements for Phases II and III. Notices about these works were gazetted in December 2024. People were able to submit objections until February 4, 2025.
For those who prefer a return to nature, scattering ashes is an option. Gardens of Remembrance offer serene settings for this. Families can also install commemorative plaques. These plaques honor loved ones amid flowers and birdsong. The administration fee for mounting is $90 HKD.
The Tsang Tsui Garden of Remembrance has a Ceremonial Room. This allows families to hold farewell ceremonies. These services are free. Eating, smoking, and burning incense are not allowed. Reservations must be made in advance.
You can visit the Gardens of Remembrance anytime during opening hours. The FEHD sometimes organizes guided tours. There are also virtual tours available online.
