The aroma of ripe grapes hangs heavy in the air. We stand before Weingut Rainer Schnaitmann. This isn’t just any winery. It’s a legacy. Nineteen generations of Schnaitmanns have cultivated these vineyards. Their story is etched into the very soil.

Rainer Schnaitmann the current owner originally studied architecture. A surprising turn he traded blueprints for vines. He leased just three hectares from his father. His ambition however was far greater than three hectares. This small plot was the foundation of his remarkable journey.

Early success came with inclusion in the prestigious Gault Millau guide. The winery expanded. But disaster struck in 2000. Hail destroyed the entire Fellbach vineyard. A devastating setback for any winemaker. Rainer Schnaitmann though showed resilience. He found new vineyards in the familiar Rems Valley.

This adversity led to a second winery location. In 2006 Weingut Rainer Schnaitmann became the youngest member of the VDP a significant achievement. More vineyards were acquired bringing the total to twenty-six hectares. Today the winery thrives.

The Fellbacher Goldberg location enjoys a warm climate. It’s where their exceptional Sauvignon Blanc is produced. Other sites include Fellbacher Lämmler known for its Riesling and Burgundy varietals. The Schnaiter Altenberg cooler due to its forested surroundings grows Riesling. Riesling has replaced Silvaner the region’s once-important grape.

The Schnaitmanns also own plots on the Gözenberg Schlossberg and Mönchsberg. Each site offers unique terroir contributing to the diversity of their wines. Their portfolio is extensive. They produce white rosé and red wines. Sparkling and sweet wines complete their offering.

In 2016 Weingut Rainer Schnaitmann achieved organic certification. This reflects their commitment to sustainable practices. The winemaking philosophy is minimal intervention. They use little or no sulfur. They avoid filtration. Often fermentation occurs spontaneously.

The confidence in their grapes is evident. The wines speak for themselves. From a small beginning to a thriving winery Weingut Rainer Schnaitmann is a testament to passion innovation and enduring family tradition. A legacy that continues to grow. Now let’s taste the fruits of their labor.
