Wat Yarnna Rangsee offers a glimpse into Theravada Buddhism. The monastery’s story began in 1989. Thai Buddhists in the D.C. area founded it. They received support from Pra Dharmapanyajarn. He was the Abbot of Wat Makut Kasattriyaram in Bangkok.
Originally, Wat Yarnna Rangsee was in Falls Church Virginia. Later, it moved to Fairfax Station. In 1996, the monastery found its permanent home in Sterling Virginia. The community built a new temple through generous donations. Construction started in 2009. It finished in 2010.
Phrakhru Sirihammvidhes Udom Samana serves as the Abbot. He leads the committees. Five monks reside here. They maintain the traditions and offer guidance. Monks at Wat Yarnna Rangsee participate in daily chanting and meditation. These sessions take place every morning and evening. They also provide spiritual support. The monks counsel members facing difficulties. They offer guidance rooted in Buddhist teachings.
Wat Yarnna Rangsee holds many Buddhist ceremonies throughout the year. The Year End Day ceremony occurs on December 31. It releases the old year’s effects. It gives blessings for the New Year. The New Year ceremony includes sermons and meditation. Devotees reflect on their actions. They donate gifts to the temple. Magha Puja Day is observed in March. It commemorates Lord Buddha’s fundamental teaching. Visakha Puja Day honors Buddha’s birth enlightenment and passing away. Asalha Puja Day marks Buddha’s first sermon.
The Songkran Festival celebrates the Thai New Year in April. The Kathina Festival concludes the Rain Retreat. Devotees offer new robes to the monks. The Loy Krathong Festival pays homage to the Holy Footprint of the Lord Buddha. People place bowls with flowers candles and incense on water.
Wat Yarnna Rangsee Buddhist Monastery offers daily activities. These include morning and evening chanting and meditation. There are also group meditations Dharma classes and Sunday services. A one-day retreat happens every third Saturday. The monks maintain the temple grounds. They ensure a welcoming space for all.
