“Peacefulness Temple” is its meaning. Wat Phonpapao is a Buddhist temple. It sits on a hill in Vientiane.

Let me tell you a little more about Wat Phonpapao. This temple is not just any temple. It is a place for forest meditation.

Wat Phonpapao was once led by the abbot Ajahn Saisamut. He was a famous Lao Buddhist teacher. His funeral in 1992 was huge. It was one of the largest funeral services Laos had ever witnessed.

Inside Wat Phonpapao, you will discover fine murals. Some of these murals are quite gruesome.

The location of Wat Phonpapao is special. It is southeast of Luang Prabang. The temple is across the Nam Khan River. From here you can see Luang Prabang Airport.

The golden stupa of Wat Phonpapao shines brightly. It calls monks and visitors alike. It is a serene escape. It is a place for reflection.
