Founded in 1960 Washington Christian Academy initially served students in kindergarten through 4th grade. It was a small school housed in a brick building on Arcola Avenue in Silver Spring. Parents played a vital role. They prepared lunches and drove school buses. The academy’s early years reflect a commitment to diversity. This was unusual for the time. Washington Christian Academy defied cultural norms. It embraced diversity as a core value.

By 1982 the academy outgrew its building. It leased a larger facility from Montgomery County. This allowed it to expand and include middle school grades. In 1996 a significant change occurred. Washington Christian School merged with Silver Spring Christian Academy. This created the Washington Christian Academy we know today a PreK-12 institution.

A major turning point arrived during the 2004-2005 school year. The academy received notice to vacate its rented space. A new public school was planned for that location. For three years the academy temporarily used spaces in other churches. This involved renting space for elementary school in Colesville Baptist Church. Middle and high school classes met at Global Mission Church. This period of transition proved fruitful. It gave Washington Christian Academy the opportunity to purchase land and build a new facility.

In the summer of 2008 a new chapter began. Washington Christian Academy opened its state-of-the-art campus in Olney Maryland. This impressive facility boasts a spacious building athletic fields and a gymnasium. The new campus significantly increased space and offered potential for future growth. The school now sits on 57.63 acres of land. About 22 acres are currently developed. This includes the main building the gymnasium and athletic facilities.

Washington Christian Academy’s athletic program has flourished. Its new campus features modern athletic facilities. These include a gymnasium a multi-purpose field and a baseball field. The school’s athletic teams have achieved remarkable success. They have won numerous championships in various sports over the years. The boys’ varsity soccer team for example won the championship in 2010-2011. The varsity boys’ soccer team also achieved back-to-back PVAC Division and PVAC Championship wins from 2015-2017. They even won the MCST Championship in 2017.

Today Washington Christian Academy continues its mission. It provides a biblically based college preparatory education. It’s a community dedicated to nurturing students academically spiritually and personally. The academy’s journey demonstrates its resilience adaptability and unwavering commitment to its founding principles. It’s a testament to the dedication of its students faculty parents and the wider community. The legacy of Washington Christian Academy is one of faith excellence and enduring impact.
