Founded in 2016, the War Studies University continues a long tradition. Its roots trace back to 1765. King Stanisław August Poniatowski established the Corps of Cadets then. This was the first state school in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
The War Studies University’s predecessors include the Higher War School. That school operated from 1919 to 1946. It also includes the National Defence University. This existed from 1991 to 2016. Minister Wojciech Fałkowski reorganized the academy. He wanted more military students.
