From Wallaces Lookout the view is breathtaking. Wallaces Lookout offers stunning panoramic vistas. This magnificent viewpoint sits high above the Grose Valley. It’s named after James Tomas Wall. He was the President of the Blue Mountains Shire Council from 1913 to 1917. The lookout was officially named in 1917.
Wallaces Lookout is reached by a short bushwalk. The walk is 1.4km return. It starts at the Pierces Pass carpark. This carpark is at the end of Pierces Pass Road. The road is unsealed but accessible to most vehicles. The track gently climbs alongside a gully. After a short distance you get your first glimpse of the distant cliffs. Another access track joins the path halfway. This track descends from the top of Pierces Pass Road. There’s an alternative longer route. It starts at the very top of Pierces Pass Road. This route is approximately 2.6km return.
The lookout itself is a small rock outcrop. This outcrop provides spectacular westward views. You can see the Grose Valley spread out below. On the opposite side of the valley lies Blackheath. Hanging Rock and Baltzer lookouts are visible too. Farther along is Burra Korain Head. Informal trails lead down to unique rock formations. These formations are near the unfenced cliff edge. Looking eastward you can spot Mount Banks in the distance.
Wallaces Lookout provides spectacular views at sunrise and sunset. It’s a popular spot for photographers. The view constantly changes with the light. During winter snow may fall on the distant peaks.
