“Ever been told you have a radio voice?” That’s the question echoing in the halls of Asnuntuck Community College. Here at WACC-LP, dreams take to the airwaves.
WACC-LP is more than just a radio station. It’s a launchpad. It’s a place where students and volunteers learn the ropes of broadcasting. WACC-LP serves the local CT State Asnuntuck community and beyond. The radio station offers educational, informational, and entertainment programming. You can find WACC-FM at 107.7 FM and online.
This 100-watt station broadcasts from the Enfield Fire Department. Despite its low power signal, WACC-LP can be heard as far north as Northampton, Massachusetts. It can also be heard as far south as Farmington, Connecticut.
WACC-LP broadcasts an alternative rock music format. Every night the station breaks from this regular programming. It features different formats.
“What’s Up Asnuntuck” airs on 107.7 WACC. Tune in to hear about events around the college. You will also hear interviews with professors and staff. The Enfield Youth Services Show also airs on WACC.
Students can gain hands-on experience broadcasting live on WACC-LP. This happens through the radio practicum course. Adam Rivers supervises this course. He is a veteran Connecticut radio personality.
Students learn audio editing in the audio production class. They then host a weekly three-hour shift on WACC. After every show, they get feedback from their instructor.
Radio offers many important jobs. These include programming music and creating PSAs. Also, commercials, exciting imaging and promotions.
WACC-LP uses the ENCO automation system. Many radio stations worldwide employ ENCO. Our AXIA-brand control boards offer real-world training.
WACC-LP started as one of the first LPFM stations in Connecticut. It operates 24 hours a day. The station is owned by Asnuntuck Community College. The long-time operations manager is Adam Rivers.
