Born in 1926 Karel Vysušil’s life intertwined with Prague’s vibrant artistic scene. He attended Jaroslav Masák’s evening School of Decorative Arts. There he met Richard Fremund a fellow artist. They later shared a studio in Smíchov. Vysušil’s journey continued to the Academy of Fine Arts. He studied under renowned professors Karel Minář and Otakar Nejedlý. He wasn’t just a student. He was a connector. He befriended other talented individuals including Robert Piesen and Jitka Kolínská. His academic pursuits weren’t limited to art. He also studied art history at Charles University. He formed a lifelong friendship with art historian František Dvořák.

The year 1946 marked a pivotal moment. Vysušil met the legendary photographer Josef Sudek. This encounter shaped his artistic vision. In 1948 he established his own studio in Smíchov. This became a hub for creativity and collaboration. He joined SCUG Hollar and the Association of Graphics Arts. These organizations provided platforms for showcasing his work. He also found love. In 1954 he met his wife Naďa.
