“A gem nestled in Storängen” That’s how I’d describe Villa Wällgren.

Villa Wällgren stands proudly at Prästgảrdsvägen 1. It’s a cultural treasure. Architect Ivar Callmander designed this beauty in 1907. Engineer Ernst Wällgren commissioned the villa. He wanted a country home for his family. It’s a testament to the national romantic style popular around 1900. The style was prevalent in Storängen’s villa community. This community was established in 1904. It attracted upper-middle-class civil servants. University professors directors artists and even some engineers also lived there. The new Stockholm-Saltsjön railway made Storängen very attractive. The railway provided fast connections to Stockholm.

Villa Wällgren itself is a plastered wooden house. It has one floor plus an attic. The high mansard roof is covered in red tiles. Notice the slightly overhanging eaves. Several smaller extensions add character. The bay windows are strategically placed. Most windows are lead-framed. The walls are yellow. The railings and moldings are painted red.

After Ernst Wällgren’s death in August 1926 opera singer and actor Emile Stiebel lived here. He left in 1941. Imagine the stories these walls could tell. The lives lived within its walls. The laughter the celebrations the quiet moments of reflection. Villa Wällgren is more than just a house. It’s a window into the past. A glimpse into the lives of those who shaped Storängen.

Villa Wällgren stands as a symbol of a bygone era. It is a beautifully preserved piece of Swedish history. A perfect example of the architectural style of its time. Its existence is considered invaluable. It stands as a testament to a simpler time. A time when craftsmanship and attention to detail were paramount. A reminder of the history of Storängen and the people who made it their home. This charming villa continues to captivate visitors. It continues to tell its story to anyone who takes the time to listen.
