Picture this. You are standing before Villa Pauli in Djursholm a stunning villa on the shore of the Stora Vartan. This isn’t just any house. It’s a piece of Swedish history.

Built in 1907 Villa Pauli was commissioned by Anna Pauli. Anna was the daughter of Johan Wilhelm Smitt. Smitt was the wealthiest man in 19th-century Sweden. He made his fortune in Latin America. He co-founded Enskilda Bank and Handelsbanken. He also funded Alfred Nobel’s Nitroglycerine Corporation. He even became its chairman from 1864 to 1904. He was instrumental in establishing the Nobel Foundation and the Nobel Prize. He also financed the University of Stockholm. Quite the legacy.

The villa’s design is magnificent. Famous architect Ragnar Ostberg created this masterpiece. The interior was richly decorated. Georg Pauli a painter added his artistry. Carl Eldh a sculptor contributed his talents. This collaboration made Villa Pauli a unique and luxurious home.

Villa Pauli wasn’t always a club. It remained a private residence until 1968. Then the Catholic Church acquired it. It became a place for visiting cardinals. Even Pope John Paul II stayed there. Imagine the history these walls have witnessed.

In 1985 real estate magnate Birger Gustavsson bought the villa. He transformed it into a prestigious club. It opened in September 1986. Arnfinn Roste purchased the club in 1998. He upgraded it. He added antiques original art and sculptures. Today many companies use Villa Pauli for events fashion shows and product launches.

So as you stand here today you’re not just looking at a building. You are witnessing a place of wealth history and exquisite artistry. Villa Pauli stands as a testament to a fascinating past. It continues to serve as a vibrant hub in the present. A true Stockholm treasure.
