Is it possible for a house to blend in and stand out at the same time? Here before us, seemingly growing from the hillside itself, is Villa Ekarne. This architectural gem, designed by the renowned Ragnar Östberg, embodies the spirit of National Romanticism with a touch of Arts and Crafts influence. Built in 1907, Villa Ekarne was initially known as Laurinska villan, named after its first owner, the art enthusiast and accountant, Torsten Laurin. Laurin housed his impressive art collection here, considered one of Sweden’s most significant at the time. Imagine the grand gatherings that must have taken place within these walls, surrounded by such a remarkable collection! A testament to Laurin’s passion, a captivating Carl Larsson painting, “De Mina,” still graces the entrance hall, inviting you to imagine the echoes of conversations and laughter from a bygone era. Over the years, Villa Ekarne has witnessed a parade of fascinating residents, each adding their own chapter to its story. From industrial magnates to music moguls like Stikkan Anderson, the manager of ABBA, this villa has seen it all. It even served as the residence of the German ambassador. Villa Ekarne is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a silent sentinel, whispering tales of artistry, ambition, and the passage of time.
