Look at this curious, futuristic house with its rounded shapes and a sort of tubular structure. This is Vila Tomia Okamury, the home of Tomio Okamura, a prominent Czech-Japanese politician and businessman. Vila Tomia Okamury was completed in 2021, and is a real architectural anomaly. Okamura’s brother, himself an architect, recommended the Venezuelan architect Christian Kerez to design the house. The main reason Okamura chose Kerez was that the architect was given complete freedom to create whatever design he envisioned. Many construction companies refused to take on the project because of the challenging and unusual design. Vila Tomia Okamury became a popular topic for discussion, and even appeared in international architectural magazines. The distinctive design, shaped like a rounded cluster of tubes, attracted much attention. However, the house also has a satirical side, as Google Maps users nicknamed it “Takeši’s Castle”, which was a popular Japanese TV show, known for its challenging game shows. Vila Tomia Okamury is a unique and intriguing example of modern architecture that stands boldly contrasting the traditional architecture that surrounds it. It’s a house, or perhaps a “castle”, that most certainly attracts attention.
