Born from the fertile lands of the Fazenda Casa Grande Vila Cordeiro’s story unfolds. This elegant neighborhood in Sao Paulo’s Zona Oeste boasts a rich past. It all began in the 1920s. The large rural estate established in 1822 was divided into lots. Its owner Manoel Safino de Arruda known as Chico Mimi played a key role. The area flourished near the intersection of Avenidas Morumbi Brito Peixoto and Godoy Colacao. Back then it was part of Santo Amaro a municipality incorporated into Sao Paulo in 1935.

Sao Paulo’s booming industrial growth drew people from across Brazil and the world. Italians and Japanese immigrants sought opportunities here enriching Vila Cordeiro’s cultural tapestry. The first roads were simple paths between farms. Small one-hectare plots produced vegetables for local consumption. The current Brooklin Novo area resulted from merging three large subdivisions of the Fazenda Casa Grande. Architect Julio Klaunig and Alvaro Rodrigues designed the first subdivision. It stretched between Avenida Santo Amaro and Marginal Pinheiros. The Avenida Morumbi formed one boundary Aguas Espraiadas the other. Vila Cordeiro and Cidade Moncoes emerged from this development.

The name Vila Cordeiro evokes the Correggo do Cordeiro a small stream now channeled underground. The neighborhood’s growth mirrored that of Vila Olimpia and Cidade Moncoes. Starting in the 1980s they experienced gentrification. Public works projects including bridges metro lines and railways transformed the area. New high-end commercial and residential buildings sprang up. Today Vila Cordeiro’s proximity to Marginal Pinheiros houses some of Sao Paulo’s most modern buildings. These include the BankBoston headquarters TV Globo Sao Paulo and the luxurious Grand Hyatt Sao Paulo Hotel. The area also boasts a mix of residential buildings catering to middle and upper-middle classes. Vila Cordeiro is dotted with trees. A surge of high-end real estate developments continues. The area also provides numerous amenities. These include bars restaurants the Hospital Premier Brooklin schools and a parish church. The future Chucri Zaidan and Vila Cordeiro metro stations will further enhance its connectivity. Vila Cordeiro’s legacy is a vibrant blend of history modern development and a high quality of life. It continues to evolve as a sought after destination in Sao Paulo.
