WU was founded in 1898, first as ‘k.u.k. Exportakademie’ (Export Academy). In 1919, it was renamed to ‘Hochschule f\u00fcr Welthandel’, which translates to ‘University of World Trade’. During the 1940s, Vienna University of Economics and Business became one of the most important institutions in Austria. Many Austrian managers and politicians received their education here. Over the years, the university grew dramatically and in 1983, it even moved to a new campus in Vienna’s 9th district. But this campus proved too small by the late 90s, so a new university campus had to be built. This new Campus WU, located in Vienna’s 2nd district close to the Vienna Fair Ground, finally opened in 2013.
