Nestled between Avenida Papa João Paulo and Rua Amália Rodrigues in Jardim Presidente Dutra, Viela do Lego waits to be discovered. Viela do Lego wasn’t always so vibrant. It was once known as Viela do Escadão, a rather unremarkable alley. Now, it’s a trendy hotspot. This transformation began a few years ago with the arrival of Vilalego Boulevard. This shopping center was the brainchild of engineer Eduardo Alexandre Franklin. Inspired by the iconic Lego bricks, Franklin designed Vilalego with colorful containers and striking iron structures. The result is an open-air artwork. Viela do Lego’s staircase has also undergone a complete makeover. Drawing inspiration from Rio de Janeiro’s Escadaria Selarón, the steps are now adorned with vibrant tile mosaics. Local artists have added their touch with graffiti art on the surrounding walls. This revitalization project was Franklin’s initiative. He wanted to transform the neglected alley. It was once a haven for drug users and a place of disrepair. Now Viela do Lego is bursting with color and life. This private initiative has injected new life into the neighborhood. It has become a tourist attraction, boosting local businesses and providing residents with a unique public art space. Viela do Lego, once forgotten, is now a testament to the power of creative vision.
