Tucked away in Toronto, Victoria Village whispers tales of transformation. Victoria Village was once a sprawling farmland in the Don Valley. Imagine the year 1952. A group of investors, led by Conservative MP R.H. McGregor, saw potential beyond the fields. They envisioned a vibrant community. They purchased six hundred acres of land, transforming seven farms into the neighborhood we know today as Victoria Village. One of the largest land deals involved the Fitzpatrick family. They had cultivated the land for over a century. Bob and Martin Fitzpatrick bid farewell to their 175-acre farm, receiving $279,000. Inspired by the success of the Don Mills subdivision, Victoria Village was designed as a self-contained haven. It boasted its own schools, shops, parks, and businesses. In 1953, Victoria Village welcomed its first residents, eager to embrace a new chapter. The name “Victoria Park Village” was a nod to the prominent Victoria Park Avenue that borders the area. Today, Victoria Village stands as a testament to its rich history. The neighborhood offers a mix of housing options, from charming bungalows and semi-detached homes to high-rise apartments and condos. Many of the original homes, built in the 1950s and early 1960s, still retain their character. Several homes offer breathtaking views of the Don Valley, a reminder of the area’s natural beauty. Sweeney Park, located off Sweeney Drive, features tennis courts and another baseball diamond. For those who enjoy winter sports, the Victoria Village Arena is a popular destination.
