Did the name “Versöhnungskirche” catch your ear? Right here in Neuehrenfeld, the Versöhnungskirche stands as a testament to community and reconciliation. The cornerstone of the Versöhnungskirche was laid on July 7, 1963. The church was inaugurated in 1964. Its unique hexagonal design, a hexagon, was conceived by Aachen architect Bertram. This reflects the classic modern style of the time. The unplastered concrete exterior might seem stark. But the interior of the Versöhnungskirche is surprisingly bright and known for its excellent acoustics. This hexagonal shape allows for versatile room layouts and seating arrangements. Interestingly, the original plans included a bell tower. However, it was never built. A functional annex was added to the Versöhnungskirche in 1991. This addition provides space for church services and other community events. Inside, the church’s name, “Reconciliation Church,” is visually emphasized. A partial rainbow, a symbol of God’s covenant and reconciliation, is painted behind the pulpit and the gallery entrance.
