“Delayed, but not forgotten.” That’s the mantra surrounding Vereador José Diniz Station. This station is a future stop on São Paulo’s Line 17-Gold.

Vereador José Diniz Station will sit where Avenida Jornalista Roberto Marinho meets Avenida Vereador José Diniz. The station is in Campo Belo district. Think of it as a crucial link. It will connect you from Morumbi Station on Line 9-Emerald to Congonhas Airport.

Originally, Line 17-Gold was planned to open way back in 2014. It would connect to São Paulo-Morumbi Station on Line 4-Yellow. The goal was to have it ready for the World Cup.

But, like many grand projects, delays mounted. The opening was then slated for 2016, then 2017, and again for 2019. After that, they aimed for late 2020, mid-2021, and the end of 2022. Now, the current estimated opening is sometime in 2026.

The station’s name comes from Avenida Vereador José Diniz. José de Oliveira Almeida Diniz was a councilman. He represented Santo Amaro for the Brazilian Labour Party. Diniz passed away from a heart attack in 1973. In 1975, Avenida Conselheiro Rodrigues Alves was renamed in his honor. This was done by Municipal Decree number 11.689.

Vereador José Diniz station will have a central platform. It will be elevated. The station is still under construction.

The broader “Corredor Vereador José Diniz-Ibirapuera-Centro” is already open since 2008. This connects the south zone to the Santa Cruz metro station. It links to the North-South Corridor. It is also known as Avenida 23 de Maio.

Keep an eye on Vereador José Diniz Station. It promises to be a vital part of São Paulo’s transport network.
