The syndicate’s ambitious plan called for a trifecta of development: a commercial port spanning 350 hectares, a sprawling industrial zone covering 700 hectares, and a residential quarter designed for 225 hectares. This marked the birth of what we know today as Venezia Marghera Scalo. The official inauguration of Venezia Marghera Scalo took place on June 28, 2006. The location? Molo A. Dedicated solely to freight traffic, Venezia Marghera Scalo boasts an impressive network of tracks. Think seven electrified main lines, fifteen secondary lines (two of which are electrified), three lines for public freight, and two shunting necks. This network, almost 45 km long, serves 25 businesses within the port. Venezia Marghera Scalo has seen impressive growth, especially in the years leading up to 2018. It became a critical component in the port’s success, handling a record-breaking volume of rail traffic. This achievement was partly due to strategic investments in the railway infrastructure, competitive pricing, efficient management of rolling stock, and the dedication of its workforce. The station plays a vital role in keeping freight traffic flowing smoothly, freeing up the Venezia Mestre station for high-speed and regional passenger lines.
