How about a serene escape right in Waverley? This is Varna Park. It’s more than just a park. It’s a green sanctuary with a history dating back to 1887.

Varna Park began its life as a dedicated park. Imagine residents of Waverley enjoying this space for well over a century. Varna Park offers something for everyone.

For the little ones Varna Park features a popular children’s playground. Swings, rockers, and a climbing structure are there. These play items suit kids of all ages. There are sheltered picnic tables nearby. Parents can relax while watching their children play.

Fitness enthusiasts aren’t left out. A modern outdoor gym sits adjacent to the playground. You can get a workout in while enjoying the fresh air.

Dog owners rejoice. The eastern end of Varna Park is a large off-leash area. Your furry friends can run and play freely.

In 2019, Varna Park received a boost. The NSW Government provided funding to improve the park. These improvements included a new picnic shelter. It replaced the old one. A new drinking fountain also replaced the old one. New rubber softfall pads were installed under the play equipment. These pads improve safety. New edging was added to the softfall mulch around the playground. New bin enclosures with dog bag dispensers were installed. Old seats were removed. Unhealthy trees were removed and pruned.

Varna Park is subject to certain prohibitions to ensure everyone enjoys the space. Ball games are not allowed. Charcoal or solid fuel barbecues are not allowed. Open fires are also prohibited. Dogs are not allowed within 10 meters of the children’s play areas. They must be on-leash at the western end of the park. Camping and staying overnight are not permitted. Smoking is not allowed within 10 meters of the playground.

Planning a gathering? Varna Park is available for hire. This includes weddings and corporate events. Larger groups can use the space. It’s also available for filming and photography.

Varna Park is located at the corner of Varna Street and Leichhardt Street in Waverley. Parking is limited to on-street parking.

Varna Park is more than just a park. It’s a place for children to play. It’s a place for adults to exercise. It’s a place for dogs to run free. It’s a place for the community to come together. Varna Park is a cherished suburban pocket of greenery in Waverley. So come, relax, and enjoy Varna Park.
