In 1992 Reverend Master Tian Ji founded Vancouver Yuan Yung Buddhism Centre Society. He responded to the call of local Buddhists. They wanted a space for new immigrants to practice Buddhism. Despite challenges the temple was established on Commercial Drive.
By 1994 the original location became too small. More and more people came to worship. Vancouver Yuan Yung Buddhism Centre Society moved to its current location on Kingsway. The temple’s mission is to purify hearts. It also aims to promote social well-being. The goal is to free all beings from suffering. The goal is to bring them happiness.
For decades Vancouver Yuan Yung Buddhism Centre Society has served its community. It hosts diverse activities. These include educational lectures and charitable events. The temple offers Buddhist studies and health seminars. They also teach vegetarian cooking.
