Have you ever wondered what it takes to establish a university from scratch? Well, here at the UTH, you can see the fruits of a dream. It began in 1986, when the ambitious businessman Roger Danilo Valladares had a vision for a different kind of higher education in Honduras. He wanted to create a university that would prepare professionals to become leaders and contribute to the social and economic development of the country. With the support of a group of friends and colleagues, he started the “Instituto Superior Tecnolu00f3gico” (INSUTEC).
The first year was challenging. The initial 32 students were taught in the old, crowded rooms of the old Pharmacy Paredes, the Roosevelt Hotel, and even in front of the Clamer movie theatre. With limited resources and a desire to offer a high-quality education, the university quickly grew. It eventually moved to the Barrio Lempira, sharing a building with the “Escuela Bilingu00fce Centro Politu00e9cnico del Norte”. However, its student body continued to expand, reaching over 1,200 by 1995. This led to the university’s current location on the central campus in San Pedro Sula, accommodating over 6,500 students today. Throughout the years, UTH has remained committed to its mission by ensuring that all professors have at least a master’s degree in order to teach, showcasing their expertise in diverse fields.
Today, UTH stands as a testament to the founders’ vision. It has expanded its reach, now boasting 11 campuses across Honduras and a vibrant online presence, providing a quality education to thousands of students. With an impressive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of business, engineering, and law, the university has cemented its position as a beacon of educational excellence in Honduras. So, as you stand here at the UTH, take a moment to appreciate the journey taken to build a higher education institution that has shaped the future of Honduras. The UTH is a place where dreams have a solid foundation and the desire for growth and knowledge thrives.
