Built in 2020 the Town Hall of Prague 7 stands proudly. It’s a modern marvel a testament to Prague 7’s enduring spirit. This isn’t just any town hall. It’s the heart of this vibrant district. A place where history and progress meet.

Before this impressive structure stood another building. Prague 7’s municipal government had been temporarily housed in various locations. For a time they resided in a building belonging to the General Financial Directorate. Before that a temporary space near Parkhotel on Letná served as the town hall. The search for a permanent home was a long and winding road. Early plans called for a completely new building. A referendum even limited the budget to 500 million crowns. But fate intervened.

In 2015 the current building was purchased. It was a structure from the 1990s. An architectural competition then ensued. Seventy different entries were submitted. Atelier bod architekti won. The architects Vojtěch Sosna, Jáchym Svoboda and Jakub Straka transformed the old building. The renovation was initially scheduled for 2019. But complexities delayed the project. It was finally completed and opened in early 2020. The town hall now boasts 202 workspaces and a meeting room for 230 people.

The building’s design echoes the style of the surrounding Holešovice neighborhood. The facade is made of red bricks. Only the skeleton the supporting structure of the original building remains. The interiors are minimalist and transparent. Each floor has a different colored floor for easy navigation. Office doors have glass windows promoting transparency. Besides offices there are council chambers and conference rooms. There’s even a rooftop terrace. It is used for cultural events. A clock adorns the highest point of the building. It was provided by Ludvig Heinz a company located nearby in Holešovice.

The Town Hall of Prague 7 is more than just bricks and mortar. It symbolizes the district’s growth. It’s a place where decisions are made. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of Prague 7. A building that reflects the past and embraces the future. This architectural gem received the prestigious Grand Prix Architektů in 2021. This award was given in the renovation category. The building stands as a symbol of successful urban regeneration. It shows how a community can transform the past to create a better future. This remarkable town hall is a must-see for any visitor. A true example of Prague 7’s vibrant spirit.
