Before it became part of the city Untermeidling stretched from the valley to this very spot.

The street boasts remarkable buildings. The George-Washington-Hof stands proudly. This impressive housing complex houses 1084 apartments. It was built between 1927 and 1930. Interestingly it was initially called “Am Wienerberg – Spinnerin am Kreuz”. This was because of a Gothic stone column nearby. The complex was later renamed for George Washington’s 200th birthday.
Part of the George-Washington-Hof has a special place in history. The Ulmenhof served as the command center during the February Uprising of 1934. This is commemorated by a memorial plaque.
