UNSW School of Art & Design traces its roots to 1833. That’s when the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts was established. Over more than 180 years, the school has evolved. It was known as Sydney Technical College, the National Art School, Alexander Mackie College and the City Art Institute. In 2014, the College of Fine Arts became UNSW Art & Design. This change reflected its commitment to contemporary creativity.

UNSW Art & Design stands on land first occupied by the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples. We acknowledge them as the Traditional Custodians. The school pays respects to Elders past and present. This respect extends to all First Nations peoples across Australia.
