Picture the majestic Plant Hall. Its Moorish Revival architecture dominates the skyline. This is the University of Tampa East Campus. We stand before a building steeped in history. It wasn’t always a university.

In 1931 Tampa Junior College was established. It was housed in a local high school. Two years later it transformed. The college moved. It took over the magnificent Tampa Bay Hotel. This iconic building became the heart of the University of Tampa.

Plant Hall’s story is extraordinary. Henry B Plant a railroad and shipping magnate built it. He envisioned a grand winter resort. The 511-room hotel cost $2.5 million. It was flamboyant. It featured Victorian gingerbread and Moorish minarets. Presidents royalty and famous athletes stayed there. Teddy Roosevelt and Babe Ruth were among its guests.

Today Plant Hall houses classrooms and offices. It’s the heart of the University of Tampa. The University occupies 110 acres. There are 71 buildings. They blend history and modernity.

The University of Tampa has flourished. It now serves over 11000 students. It offers more than 200 programs. These include 19 master’s degrees and two doctorates. The university has a strong reputation for academic excellence. It offers personal attention and real-world experience. Students come from all 50 states and many countries. Its annual revenue is $420 million. Its economic impact is estimated at $1.03 billion.
