Amidst the bustling city of Vienna, a unique structure stands tall. It’s the Universität Wien Rossau. Its twelve stories rise like a beacon of knowledge. The Universität Wien Rossau isn’t just a building. It’s a hive of activity, housing the dreams and ambitions of 2,500 students of mathematics and economics. Universität Wien Rossau opened its doors in the winter semester of 2013. It was built on the foundations of a 1955 structure. The original building, nestled between Hahngasse, Rossauer Lände, Berggasse, and Türkenstraße, underwent a complete modernization. The architects, Maurer-Neumann and Partner, retained the original charm while updating it for the 21st century. The façade facing Rossauer Lände is especially striking. It’s a decorative surface reminiscent of individual pixels, making Universität Wien Rossau easily recognizable. The building, previously a pension insurance office, is owned by Raiffeisen-Holding NÖ-Wien. They spearheaded the renovation. The University of Vienna has a forty-year lease. Inside, Universität Wien Rossau offers state-of-the-art facilities. Four large lecture halls and several smaller ones provide ample space for learning. One of the large lecture halls, with 400 seats, is the third largest at the University of Vienna. A modern library occupies the lower floors. Students can grab a bite at the first-floor cafeteria, which boasts a lovely terrace overlooking an interior courtyard. The tower section is dedicated to mathematics, with offices and seminar rooms. The base houses the economics department. The Universität Wien Rossau’s location offers students a stimulating environment in close proximity to other university facilities. The move consolidated departments previously located at Nordbergstraße and Brünner Straße, fostering collaboration between mathematics and economics students. The University of Vienna Rector, Heinz Engl, emphasized the benefits of this co-location. Both departments are research-oriented and internationally focused. The focus on quantitative methods within the economics department complements the mathematical focus, creating a synergistic environment.
