Founded by a group of six forward-thinking professors, Universidade Guarulhos has been shaping minds and futures since 1970. Originally known as “Faculdade Farias Brito,” this esteemed institution adopted a clever disguise to navigate the bureaucratic hurdles of its birth. Concerned that the Ministry of Education wouldn’t authorize two colleges from different groups in Guarulhos, the founders chose the name “Farias Brito” to mask its true location. This strategic decision, a tribute to the celebrated philosopher from Ceará, proved successful. The Ministry granted approval, paving the way for Universidade Guarulhos to blossom into a leading center of learning. Initially operating from a section of Colégio Claretiano, the burgeoning student body quickly outgrew the shared space. A new building was inaugurated in May 1972, a testament to the university’s rapid growth and ambition. By 2014, Universidade Guarulhos boasted an impressive 18,300 students across five campuses. Three of these campuses reside in Guarulhos itself, with one in São Paulo and another in Itaquaquecetuba. In 2014, a new chapter began when the Ser Educacional group acquired Universidade Guarulhos. This acquisition marked a significant investment in the university’s future, underscoring its enduring value and potential.
