The story of United Christian Parish began in 1973. It started as a dream. The founders wanted to create a united community. This community would welcome all persons. It would celebrate the diversity of its members.
United Christian Parish honors different traditions. These traditions include Christian Church. They also include Presbyterian USA. Furthermore, they include United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church. These are honored in worship. They are also honored in baptism and communion. The church is committed to Christian education. It is equally committed to mission, fellowship, stewardship, and witness.
The church believes in a multi-denominational approach. This shows how diverse people can build something bigger together. It allows members autonomy. They can explore their beliefs and faith practices.
United Christian Parish is open and affirming. All gender expressions and sexual orientations are welcome. They are welcome to the full life of the church. The Gospel understands that God doesn’t reject people. This is regardless of their gender expression or sexual orientation.
The founders modeled the structure of United Christian Parish. It is a united community of faith. It welcomes all persons. It celebrates diversity of membership. It acknowledges covenanting denominations’ ministries. Sacramental practices are authentic expressions. They are of the universal church. They unite through ecumenical worship. This is grounded in those practices.

United Christian Parish promotes understanding. This happens through open dialogue. People share joys and concerns. They respect each person’s faith journey. The community prays regularly for one another. They also pray for the unity of the church. The Parish fosters interdenominational dialogue. It also fosters interfaith dialogue and cooperation. This includes ministry and worldwide service.
Today the work of United Christian Parish continues. It is committed to the dreams of the founders. The mission is to create opportunities. This allows all people to experience God’s love.
United Christian Parish values innovative worship. It does so within four traditions. Inclusiveness and hospitality are key. They advance social justice. They prepare people for God’s call. This is done through Christian education. The church is a responsible steward. It takes care of natural and material resources.
Once United Christian Parish had three campuses. They helped develop Reston Interfaith. Bishop Desmond Tutu spoke there. United Christian Parish raised money to build a school in Rwanda. The church officially granted same-sex marriages. It co-sponsored the first Reston Pride. The Parish continues to break new ground. This is in both inter-denominational and hybrid ministry.
