UMGC celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022. For over 70 years it has served the educational needs of the U.S. military around the world.
The University of Maryland Global Campus offers open access to education. It serves over 34000 adult learners in Maryland each year. Around 90000 students worldwide benefit from its programs. These students often balance jobs family and military service.
UMGC provides bachelor’s master’s and doctoral programs. Certificates are also available. Students can learn online in hybrid formats or face-to-face. There are more than 20 locations across Maryland Washington D.C. and Northern Virginia.
UMGC’s programs are award-winning. They focus on high-demand fields like biotechnology cybersecurity data analytics and information technology. The university adapts to meet workforce needs.
The institution has evolved over time. In 1959 it was renamed University College. It became part of the University of Maryland System in 1988. In 1997 the system became the University System of Maryland. Finally in July 2019 University College was renamed University of Maryland Global Campus.
UMGC offers flexible learning options. Many programs can be completed entirely online. Day evening and weekend classes are available. The university also serves U.S. military personnel government employees and their families. Courses are offered in over 20 countries and territories. There are more than 175 worldwide locations.
The university is structured into several key areas. These include Academic Affairs Business Operations Global Military Operations Marketing & Admissions and Student Affairs. Each area plays a vital role in supporting students and delivering quality education. Student Affairs focuses on Student Engagement and Achievement and Student Success and Advising.
UMGC continues to expand its reach and offerings. Its online location tools help students find nearby services. Dedicated advisors support military and veteran students.
