This remote campground is tucked away in Sydney’s northern outskirts. It is part of Marramarra National Park. Twin Beaches Campground has two camping areas. They are 400m apart. The south camping area is larger. Access is easier during low tides.
What can you do here? Spend your days fishing, swimming, paddling or boating on the calm waterways.
Nearby, you will find historic Bar Island. Explore its old church ruins. The cemetery is filled with headstones of European settlers.
Feeling energetic? Take your boat upstream on Marramarra Creek. Head to Marramarra Creek Campground. It is the starting point for the Marramarra Ridge to Smugglers Ridge walking track. This track takes you across beautiful sandstone ridgetops. Reward your efforts with a refreshing swim in the creek.
Bring your binoculars to Twin Beaches Campground. There’s plenty of opportunity for birdwatching. Look for black cockatoos. Watch white-bellied sea eagles soaring above the river. You might spot goannas wandering through the campground. They roam between the Sydney red gum and sheoak trees.
Twin Beaches Campground provides barbecue facilities. There are also non-flush toilets. Remember to bring drinking water, cooking water and firewood. Insect repellent is essential. There are no camping fees but a small booking fee applies. Bookings can be made for up to 15 people or three sites online.
Getting to Twin Beaches Campground requires a boat trip. Public boat ramps are at Mooney Mooney and Berowra Waters.
From Mooney Mooney, follow the Hawkesbury River upstream. Travel about 8.5km to the mouth of Berowra Creek. Twin Beaches Campground is on the right. It sits on the western shore of Berowra Creek.
Alternatively, start from Berowra Waters. Follow Berowra Creek downstream about 10km. Head to the Hawkesbury River junction. Twin Beaches Campground will be on your left. It’s on the western shore of Berowra Creek.
Remember there is no vehicle access to this campground. Access is by boat only. Also, there is no water available. Take all rubbish with you when you leave. There are no rubbish bins provided.
Campfires are permitted. Solid fuel burners are allowed. Camping is permitted on the flats behind the beaches.
A current NSW recreational fishing license is required when fishing. Gathering firewood is prohibited. Pets are not allowed. Smoking is not permitted in NSW national parks.
