TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College

Established on September 8, 1961, TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College stands proudly on Oxford Road in Kowloon Tong. Initially known as Tung Wah Hospital Number One College, it was the first secondary school established by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. This organization is renowned as the oldest and largest charitable organization in Hong Kong. TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College later received a generous donation of HK$500,000 in the autumn of 1971. This gift came from Wong Fut-nam, a prominent local entrepreneur and philanthropist. In his honor, the school adopted its current name. The college’s motto, “Diligence, Frugality, Loyalty, Faithfulness,” reflects the values instilled in its students. The school’s history is intertwined with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. This connection is evident in initiatives like the 2017 two-week joint school overseas language immersion program. This program, which included a trip to Vancouver, provided students with invaluable cultural and linguistic experiences. Beyond academics, TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College is recognized for its strong athletic teams. They frequently achieve success in district-wide sports competitions. However, the college’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. In 2022, a student named Nathan Lam Chak-chun filed a complaint. He alleged that the school’s policy on long hair violated the Sex Discrimination Ordinance. This incident sparked discussions about individual expression within the school environment.
