Curious about the story behind this school? This is Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School. It stands as one of the oldest secondary schools in Tseung Kwan O New Town.

Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School started as part of the Education Bureau’s School Renewal Programme. Its precursor was Kennedy Town Government Secondary School. The school first opened its doors in September 1988. The official opening ceremony took place on March 1, 1990. Mrs. Allan Lee presided over the ceremony. Mr. Lee Yuet-ting delivered the opening speech.

The school’s motto is “Prepare yourself that you may serve”. This motto was adopted in 1998. It encourages students to develop moral character. It also fosters a desire to strengthen themselves. Students learn to respect others. They also learn the value of cooperation. The goal is to help them serve the community. They should also fulfill the school song’s message. This includes living a disciplined life. It means looking after family. It also means ensuring good governance. They should also explore the nature of things. Thus they can serve their homeland.

Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School actively encourages students to use information technology for learning. In 1998 each classroom got a TV, a projector, a loudspeaker, a recorder and a computer screen. The Multimedia Learning Centre opened in 2000. A campus TV network was installed in 2001. By 2003 each classroom had a video camera. It also had a built-in computer desk for teachers. Audio-visual equipment was updated to enhance teaching.

As the school grew, the original space became too small. A School Improvement Project began in 2002. A new wing was finished in April 2003. This increased the school site from 7000 to 8500 square metres. The new wing provided more space for classes and activities. Mr. Cheng Yan-tse opened the new wing on April 22, 2004.

The new wing offered expanded activity facilities. There is a mini-hall for table tennis. The Student Activity Centre became popular with the Dancing Group. The library and language room provide possibilities. The conference room supports meetings. The geography and music rooms enhance learning.

The Alumni Association formed in 1997. It aims to connect past students. It also shows concern for the school’s growth. The Alumni Association and teachers hold talks. These talks share experiences about education and careers. The “TKOGSS Alumni Association Scholarship for Comprehensive Progress” recognizes students. The students who have made progress in conduct and studies. They have also provided various services. The Alumni Association also organizes activities. These activities help members and teachers stay connected.
