Is the roar of the water deafening? Here at the Trojský kanál, it certainly feels that way. This incredible waterway, carved out from the Vltava River, isn’t just a pretty sight. The Trojský kanál is a world-renowned sporting arena. This channel has seen it all, from national competitions to the prestigious World Championships in 2006 and 2013. Even the European Championships chose this spot in 2018 and 2020. But the Trojský kanál isn’t just for the pros. Every year, the “O cenu Trojského koně” competition brings together international talent. This event has been a mainstay since 1982, shortly after the channel officially opened in 1980. Watching the athletes navigate the rapids is thrilling. They twist and turn through the water with impressive skill. The channel, classified as WW III-IV, provides a challenging course. It stretches 410 meters long and boasts a powerful flow of 13 to 16 cubic meters per second. Originally, the rapids were made of concrete panels, old tires filled with concrete, and wooden beams. But in 2012, a major renovation took place. Now, most of the obstacles are made of movable plastic elements, allowing for even more dynamic course adjustments. Standing here, you can almost feel the energy and passion that have flowed through this channel for decades. It’s a testament to the power of human ambition and the enduring allure of water sports.
