The Tri-Congregational Churches at 1080 Finch Avenue East in North York was founded in 1970. Three congregations decided to share one building. These were St Cyprian’s Anglican, Iona Presbyterian, and Hillcrest United. They had been worshipping in temporary spaces. They joined together to erect this building.
Imagine three distinct church communities. Each retains its identity. Yet they thrive together under one roof. The Anglican Diocese owns the land. The building itself is jointly owned by the Tri-Congregational Churches.
Inside this building are three large worship areas. Each church has its own space. They maintain their unique name, congregation, and worship schedule. They all operate under the Tri-Congregational Churches umbrella.
This arrangement enables special joint services. These occur during significant times in the church year. The churches also collaborate on social activities. They extend their outreach into the wider community.
The building’s design is unique. It features three large worship areas. Many community organizations use these rooms. They host meetings and recreational activities here.
Hillcrest Church disbanded in 2003. St. Christopher’s Chinese Anglican Church assumed their partnership share. Today, St. Cyprian’s Anglican, Iona Presbyterian, and St. Christopher’s Anglican make up the Tri-Congregational Churches.
In June 2010, the Tri-Congregational Churches celebrated their 40th anniversary. A special service was held on the church lawn. It celebrated their four decades of working together.
