Nestled amidst the vibrant energy of Shenzhen, Shum Yip Upperhills Tower 1 pierces the sky with its impressive stature. Tower 1 isn’t just another skyscraper. It’s a symbol of innovation, a testament to Shenzhen’s rapid growth and architectural prowess. Completed in 2020, Tower 1 stands at a breathtaking 388.1 meters, or 1,273.3 feet. Its 80 floors house a mix of office spaces and a luxurious hotel, creating a dynamic hub where business and leisure intertwine. Tower 1 is part of the larger Shum Yip Upperhills complex, a mixed-use development that bridges the gap between Lotus Hill Park and Beacon Hill Park. Elevated pedestrian bridges connect the complex to these green spaces, offering a seamless transition between urban life and natural tranquility. The tower’s design is a marvel of modern engineering. The architects at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) implemented a unique “Ladder Core System”. This system connects the perimeter mega-columns to the central reinforced concrete core at every floor. This differs from traditional skyscraper design, which typically connects these columns only at mechanical floors. This innovative structural design allows for column-free floor plates, maximizing usable space and providing unobstructed views of the surrounding parks and cityscape. The tower’s facade is equally remarkable. Floor-to-ceiling glass panes wrap around the building, offering panoramic views from every angle. The construction of Tower 1 began on February 12, 2014. Its completion in 2020 marked another milestone in Shenzhen’s remarkable architectural journey. Tower 1 is more than just steel and glass. It’s a symbol of Shenzhen’s ambition and its dedication to creating a harmonious blend of urban development and natural beauty.
