The church was established in 1968, originally meeting at the YMCA on Broadview Avenue. It later moved to First Avenue Baptist Church before finally acquiring its current building on Sheppard Avenue East.
The Toronto Jaffray Chinese Alliance Church has a remarkable history of growth and service. It began under the leadership of the late Rev. Michael Chan. He initiated a Chinese ministry at First Avenue Baptist Church. In 1971, the church affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, becoming Toronto Jaffray Chinese Alliance Church. The church’s youth ministry flourished in the 1970s, leading to over 100 baptisms annually. The church expanded further with the introduction of an English ministry in 1980, followed by English worship services in 1981. After Rev. Chan’s passing in 1989, Rev. Stephen Chan served as interim pastor. Then Rev. Yuen King Wan led the church, focusing on adult and family ministries and bolstering outreach efforts.
Toronto Jaffray Chinese Alliance Church planted North Toronto Chinese Alliance Church in Richmond Hill in 1990. A Mandarin ministry began in 1999, and Petra Alliance Church was established in Markham in 2010. After a period without a senior pastor, Rev. Stephen Ford joined Toronto Jaffray Chinese Alliance Church in 2017. He revitalized the church’s connection to the Riverdale community. In 2021, the English name was updated to Toronto Community Alliance Church, retaining the original Chinese name. Today, the Toronto Jaffray Chinese Alliance Church continues its legacy. It offers a welcoming space for worship and fellowship, demonstrating the power of faith and community. The current English Ministry even offers a new study on the book of Ruth and how to read Hebrew narrative in its Sunday School classes.
