Ready to step back in time? We are standing before the prestigious Toronto Golf Club. It is a place where history and sport intertwine. This club is not just a golf course. It is a living monument to the game’s rich heritage.

Founded in 1876, the Toronto Golf Club stands as the third-oldest golf club in North America. Only the Royal Montreal and Royal Quebec Golf Clubs are older. Imagine the stories these grounds could tell.

Originally, the club was located east of Coxwell Avenue. It then moved to its current location in Mississauga in 1913. This marked a new chapter in its storied history. The Toronto Golf Club adopted its current name in 1909.

The Toronto Golf Club has hosted the Canadian Open five times. It also hosted the Canadian Amateur Championship nine times. No other club can boast that record. These tournaments have seen some of golf’s greatest moments.

Harry Colt, a renowned English architect, designed the 18-hole course. His design was ready in the fall of 1912. The clubhouse followed, completed in 1913. In 1919, the Club acquired more land to the north. A new nine-hole course opened in 1921.

Walking these fairways, one feels the echoes of legends past. George Cumming served as the head professional for an incredible 50 years. He started in 1900 at the young age of 21. His dedication shaped the club’s identity. Donovan Fraser is the current Head Professional. He was hired in 2024.

Golf architecture enthusiasts appreciate the compelling middle stretch of holes. The course’s design provides an amazing golfing experience. Some say the opening holes are tame. But starting with the 4th hole, the course becomes exceptional. The 11th and 12th holes are a dynamic duo.

The 4th hole, a 190-yard par 3, is a Redan style hole. It is perhaps the most memorable one-shotter. The 16th hole is a creative par 5. It offers many ways to get into trouble. The 9th hole is a dramatic par 4.

The Toronto Golf Club is private. Its vibe draws comparisons to San Francisco Golf Club. One truly feels as if they have traveled back 100 years.

The Toronto Golf Club celebrated the Colt Course’s 100th anniversary in 2012. Dr. Martin Hawtree was recognized for his renovation work. His efforts ensured the course remains a masterpiece.

The Toronto Golf Club remains a symbol of golfing excellence. Its history, design, and commitment to tradition make it a treasure. It is a place where the spirit of the game lives on.
