Completed in 2024, the Tong Hang Fresh Water Service Reservoir stands as a testament to modern engineering. It plays a crucial role in ensuring a reliable water supply for the residents of Sheung Shui and Fanling. This reservoir, with its impressive 55,000 cubic meter capacity, isn’t just a storage facility. It’s a key component of a larger network that brings fresh water to this bustling part of Hong Kong. The Tong Hang Fresh Water Service Reservoir project involved much more than just the reservoir itself. The project included the construction of a network of pipes. Approximately 2 kilometers of trunk mains and 12 kilometers of distribution mains connect the reservoir to the existing water system. These pipes, ranging in diameter from 150mm to 900mm, weave their way underground, ensuring that water reaches homes and businesses throughout the southwestern parts of Sheung Shui and Fanling. The project also involved upgrading the Tai Po Fresh Water Pumping Station. This upgrade ensures the efficient movement of water throughout the system. The Tong Hang Fresh Water Service Reservoir is a vital part of Hong Kong’s ongoing efforts to maintain a reliable and sustainable water supply. The project cost nearly $1.7 billion, highlighting the importance placed on water security in this dynamic region. The Tong Hang Fresh Water Service Reservoir is not just a feat of engineering. It’s a symbol of Hong Kong’s commitment to providing for its people.
