The Japan Baptist Mission asked him to establish the first English-speaking Baptist church outside the United States. Along with his wife Doris he gathered 27 dedicated individuals. They pledged total commitment to build this church. They prayed for revival in the city nation and world.
Services started in 1957. Through the sacrifices of its founding members the church acquired its current property. The building itself was completed in October 1959. The congregation has grown immensely. It now boasts almost a thousand members. The church has a contemporary worship style. It’s also known for its small group structure. Today the Tokyo Baptist Church isn’t confined to one location. It has expanded to include two multi-site locations. One is in West Tokyo. The other is in Misato Saitama.
