“A Paddington couple on a Vespa drinking cappuccino.” That’s how Gillie and Marc describe their sculpture “The things you pick up 2”. We’re standing on the corner of Glenmore Road and Cascade Street. The sculpture is a bronze artwork. It features Dogman and Rabbitwoman. These characters represent the archetypal Paddington couple.
“The things you pick up 2” was acquired by Woollahra Council. It is now a permanent display for all to enjoy. Gillie and Marc believe art should be accessible. They want their Dogman and Rabbitwoman to resonate with the community. They achieved this in Paddington.
In 2011, Gillie and Marc participated in Woollahra Council’s Public Art Program. This initiative allows artists to give public spaces a creative makeover. Paddington is an inner-city urban community. Parking is difficult. Coffee shops are plentiful. Dogman and Rabbitwoman on a Vespa capture this essence. Locals dress them up. Visitors take photos with them.
