The Soccer Centre boasts a rich heritage. Toronto’s soccer story began way back in 1876. The first Association Football game was played right here in this city. Carlton Cricket Club faced off against Toronto Lacrosse Club. It marked the humble beginnings of a sport that would captivate generations. It has a huge 130000-square-foot field house. This space can fit three indoor soccer fields or one full-sized 11-a-side game. There are also two international-size outdoor grass fields and one artificial turf field. A sports therapy clinic restaurant and lounge complete this impressive complex.
The Soccer Centre has hosted some significant events. The Toronto FC II a reserve team of Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC once called it home. This happened between 2015 and 2017. In 2003 a new artificial turf field was added. This project was a collaborative effort between the Ontario Soccer Association the Canadian Soccer Association the Soccer Centre itself and the City of Vaughan.
In 2015 a major $5 million renovation transformed the stadium. This upgrade aimed to expand seating capacity to 5000. Although the expansion plans didn’t fully materialize the stadium still holds up to 1200 spectators. Today The Soccer Centre remains a buzzing hub of activity.
