Slipping through a hidden portal in Cologne, we find ourselves at The Great Escape. This isn’t about Steve McQueen and daring WWII pilots. This is a different kind of adventure, a steampunk-infused escape room experience nestled in the trendy Ehrenfeld district, on Venloer Straße. The Great Escape’s owners have cleverly blended their passion for escape rooms and steampunk. This has resulted in wonderfully quirky game rooms that immediately captivate every player. Reaching The Great Escape is easy. You can walk, bike, or take public transport to the Toskanapassage in the Venloer Straße. While paid parking exists, Cologne’s bustling streets can make parking a hassle. Arriving relaxed is half the fun. The Great Escape offers unique missions, each room woven with a compelling story directly related to the puzzles. “Die Geissel der Menschheit” (The Scourge of Mankind) pits teams of 2 to 8 players against a highly contagious virus stolen from a Cologne research institute. Locked in a secret laboratory, infected with the virus, the team races against a 60-minute incubation period to find an antidote, saving humanity and themselves. Another room, “Circus Mortale,” invites 2 to 6 players into the world of steampunk circus. They must escape a circus wagon and solve a murder where they are the prime suspects. These original rooms are truly unique. You don’t need to be a tech whiz or Einstein to solve the puzzles. A strong team is the key. Both missions are suitable for children aged 10 and up, although those under 14 require adult supervision. The Great Escape is perfect for any occasion. They also offer special deals for birthdays and bachelor parties. Groups of 6 or more allow the birthday person or the bride/groom to play for free, with a small surprise after a successful escape. The surrounding bars, pubs, and restaurants offer the perfect setting to celebrate a successful escape, birthday, or upcoming wedding. The Great Escape’s charm is undeniable. If you love unique puzzles, meticulously designed rooms, and dislike franchises, The Great Escape in Cologne is your steampunk paradise.
