Ever wondered how a humble seed of faith can blossom into a magnificent temple? Here at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tegucigalpa. It’s a story that began in 1952. President Juan Manuel Galvez granted permission for missionary work in Honduras.

The first missionaries James T. Thorup and George W. Allen arrived in December. In March 1953 the first local converts were baptized in the Humuya River. Jose Santos Ortega Flores was among them. The Tegucigalpa Branch was organized the very next day. Jose became the first Honduran to receive the Aaronic Priesthood.

Ground was first broken in June 2007. But construction was halted due to concerns from city officials. They worried it would overshadow the Our Lady of Suyapa Basilica. Out of respect for the city the Church relocated the temple.
