Back then the headquarters were initially in the Netherlands. The broadcasts came from Hilversum. Programs had to be flown in. This was to avoid licensing problems. Later Telewizja Polsat moved to Warsaw. Now it resides in the skyscraper before us at Ostrobramska 77.
Do you know how Telewizja Polsat got its name? Satirist Tadeusz Drozda came up with it. In 1994 Telewizja Polsat adopted the sun as its logo. The golden Aztec sun was meant to assure success.
Telewizja Polsat revolutionized Polish media. In 1993 it launched the first independent news service in Central and Eastern Europe. It was called “Informacje”. Young journalists worked tirelessly. They aired live news every evening.
Polsat quickly gained popularity. Its talk show “Na kazdy temat” became famous. The phrase “a helicopter has landed at the Polsat skyscraper” was its trademark. Though Telewizja Polsat didn’t have a skyscraper until 2000.
Telewizja Polsat embraced disco polo music. The show “Disco Relax” boosted the genre. Artists gained huge popularity through it. International content also played a role. Telewizja Polsat aired “Titanic” before any other station in the world.
Over the years Telewizja Polsat has launched many channels. There are channels for news sports movies and lifestyle. Polsat also offers channels for kids documentaries and music.
