The area of Tel Baruch dates back to 1947. It is located on the northern side of the Yarkon River. Tel Baruch is in the northeast of Tel Aviv. The neighborhood is named after Mordechai sometimes called Marko Yosef Baruch. He was a Zionist activist in Algeria, Bulgaria, Egypt, and Italy. He lived from 1872 to 1899.
Tel Baruch is divided into two parts. The old section is south of KKL-JNF Boulevard. This was the first neighborhood built north of the Yarkon. It was founded in 1946. The first inhabitants were immigrants. They came from Turkey and Bulgaria. They resettled here in October 1947.
Initially, 32 housing units were built. The neighborhood expanded north of KKL-JNF Boulevard in 1949 and 1950. The elementary school of the poet Yehuda Alharizi opened in 1951. Interestingly, Tel Baruch was hit by artillery during the Six-Day War. The shell came from Qalqiliya.
The new part of Tel Baruch emerged in the late 90s. It is known as Tel Baruch North. Over 70% of the construction here consists of residential buildings. These buildings typically have four to eight floors. The remaining portion is made up of villas. Tel Baruch North also features the Mikado Center shopping center. It includes the Naomi Shemer elementary school. There is also a boarding school for children. This school supports families that cannot raise them in a typical manner. During the British Mandate, the area housed a military camp.
