Teatr Rampa

Opened in 1975, Teatr Rampa wasn’t always known by this name. It initially began as “Teatr na Targówku”. It served as a precursor to Praga’s first musical stage. Teatr Rampa quickly became a vibrant hub for musical performances. Stars like Danuta Rinn, Alicja Majewska, and Ewa Demarczyk graced its stage. Even Grzegorz Markowski, Tadeusz Ross, and Jerzy Złotnicki performed here. The renowned Czesław Majewski even lent his talents as a conductor to Teatr Rampa. In 1981, Jan Krzyzanowski took the directorial reins. He broadened the repertoire. Alongside musicals, classical plays and contemporary works found a home at Teatr Rampa. This era saw notable figures like Juliusz Loranc and Lucjan Kaszycki contributing their musical expertise. Famous artists like Sława Przybylska, Józef Fryzlewicz, Mieczysław Voit, and Barbara Horawianka also became associated with the theater. The transformation continued in 1987. Andrzej Strzelecki became the director and renamed it “Teatr Rampa”. He assembled a new ensemble. His focus truly cemented the theater’s identity as a musical powerhouse. Luminaries like Janusz Józefowicz, Stanisław Tym, and Magda Umer contributed to the growing popularity of Teatr Rampa. A brief period saw Andrzej Maciejewski as director in 1997-1998, with Krzysztof Miklaszewski as the artistic director. From 1998 to 2021, Witold Olejarz steered Teatr Rampa. During his tenure, various artistic directors shaped the theater’s offerings. Cezary Domagała led the Children’s Stage, later becoming artistic director. Witold Mazurkiewicz oversaw the Chamber Stage. Grzegorz Mrowczyński directed the Mrowisko Stage, and Jakub Wocial headed the Musical Stage. Since September 2021, Michał Walczak, a playwright and director, has been leading Teatr Rampa. He collaborates with Łukasz Strzelczyk and Marta Zalewska to implement his artistic vision. Teatr Rampa has presented a staggering 550 productions over the decades. These include “Musicale, musicale”, “Fanfan Tulipan”, and “Romek i Julka”. The theater also staged “Pierwszy dzień wolności”, “Złe zachowanie”, and “Zimy żal”. Productions like “Love”, “Film”, “Criminale Tango”, and “Jeździec burzy” further enriched its history. Teatr Rampa’s diverse offerings also featured “Sztukmistrz z miasta Lublina”, “Klimakterium… i już”, “Tajemniczy ogród”, and many more.
