Perhaps you have never heard of Tarchomin Fabryczny. Today, let me introduce you to this unique area in Warsaw. Tarchomin Fabryczny. It is also known as Tarchomin Wschodni or Tarchomin Przemyslowy. It lies northeast of the intersection of Modlińska and Płochocińska streets.
Tarchomin Fabryczny is a neighborhood within the Białołęka district. This district is in the northern part of Warsaw. It is known as the industrial heart of Białołęka. Polfa Tarchomin and Cementownia Warszawa are located here. These are the biggest industrial operations in Białołęka.
But Tarchomin Fabryczny is not just factories. Residential buildings are quickly expanding. Tarchomin Fabryczny is located near Wiśniewo, Żerań, and Piekiełko. The village of Tarchomin is very old. It dates back to the Middle Ages. Documents from the 13th century mention its name. The Jastrzębiec family lived here.
In the 16th century, the village was owned by the Weslów family. Later it was owned by the Zaliwski and Ossoliński families. They built the Gothic church of St. James. The Tarchomin estate included several villages. These were Dąbrówka Szlachecka and Dąbrówka Grzybowska. Kępa Tarchomińska and Świdry were also part of the estate.
In 1823, a vinegar factory opened in Tarchomin. Ludwik Spiess expanded it in the 19th century. Eventually, the factory produced fertilizers. Later, it manufactured medicines and cosmetics. It was known as Przemysłowo-Handlowe Zakłady Chemiczne Ludwik Spiess i Syn. After 1945, Polfa Tarchomin continued this tradition.
In the second half of the 19th century, Tarchomin had a manor and farms. The village of Tarchomin was part of the Jabłonna commune between the wars. During the German occupation, a labor camp existed in Tarchomin. It was in Piekiełko. This camp was for Jewish people. It was closed in November 1942.
In 1951, Tarchomin became part of Warsaw. Construction of the Tarchomin housing estate began in 1979. Architect Jerzy Androsiuk designed it. New apartment buildings continue to appear here.
In September 2017, Galeria Północna opened. This large shopping center is at the intersection of Światowida and Trakt Nadwiślańskiego streets. Tarchomin has three parts. They are Tarchomin Kościelny and Nowy Tarchomin. The third part is Tarchomin Fabryczny. Each has its own unique character.
