The church’s design is a captivating blend of architectural styles. It’s neo-Romanesque with touches of neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance elements.

The church was originally named the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Locals however know it better as the Pink Church. That’s thanks to the pastel-pink paint applied in 1957. The vibrant color has become its defining feature. It’s one of the largest churches in Ho Chi Minh City. Only the Notre-Dame Basilica is bigger. Both are part of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City. However Tan Dinh Church is not a cathedral. That title belongs to Notre-Dame.

Later a publishing house helped disadvantaged youth learn printing skills. In 1976 the church celebrated its 100th anniversary. They repainted it. They also raised and tiled the chancel.
